Efficient energy use, or “energy efficiency”, is using less energy to provide the same level of energy service. An example would be insulating a home to useless energy for heating and cooling to achieve the same temperature. Another example would be installing fluorescent lights and/or skylights instead of incandescent lights to attain the same level of light flow.

As part of Australia’s fight against climate change, both State and Federal Governments are implementing a range of policies with an aim to significantly reduce carbon pollution. Some of these schemes place obligations on energy retailers to purchase renewable energy, promote the efficient use of energy and pay for the carbon pollution that their customers produce.
